Fred Kingsbury - baritone
Fred lives in Walpole, MA with his wife Carol (see her bio above) and joined the Walpole MA, BHS Chapter in 1970, from an ad his father Bill saw in a newspaper. The next week he dragged his father to the Walpole Chapter. That experience turned into a wonderful pastime for life. His first quartet was Three Dads and a Lad, with Fred singing tenor and Bill singing baritone. While getting his music education degree at the University of Lowell, Fred became the director of the Canton, MA Chapter. With Fred singing lead in The Norfolk County Music Company, the group captured second place at the Northeastern District contest in 1981. He also sang lead with Saturday Night Review, a popular show quartet during the mid 80's. Fred's next quartet was with his son David and they named the group, Generations. David sang lead and this time Fred sang baritone and the 3rd generation was Bob Beaver, a contemporary of Bill and the bass of Three Dads and Lad 30 years prior. When circumstances forced the quartet to disband, their swan song was Val Hicks', "Singing Here With Dad", a memory Fred will cherish for the rest of his life. As Fred's latest accomplishment he sang tenor with Jones & Co when they won the 2007 Patriot Division Quartet Championship.
With the addition of Brad Spencer to the quartet in March 2008, Fred moved up to sing lead again. Now that Brad has moved back to an all male competing quartet, Fred is back singing baritone again with Southeast Light, but get a load of this....he also sings tenor with the 2009 Division Seniors Quartet Champion X-Men. Boy, is he talented (or is that confused)?. The only part left that he hasn't sung yet is bass, but that will have to be in another lifetime he says. :-)
Fred's current barbershop activities include tenor section leader, chorus member qualifying coach, Assistant Director and Music VP with the Providence, RI chorus, NBC (2008 NED Chorus Champions) ( http://singnbc.com), Chorus Director of the Harmony Heritage Chorus of Harmony Incorporated and is the co-webmaster for the Northeastern District (NED) of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) and says it's a good thing his wife is involved in barbershop also, or else......? |
